Some reflections on the Berlin 11 conference, Berlin November 2013. The following are some things I particularly noticed at the Berlin 11 open access conference, which I attended earlier this week, with apologies for any misunderstandings, misattributions or mis-categorisations.

The JISC national e-books observatory project. Undertook a wealth of research, analysing log data to learn about how users discover and navigate through e-books, exploring the attitudes of academics and students and assessing the impact of making course text e-books available via university libraries to thousands of students on print sales. Basque and Georgian are they related? Basque, the only non-Indo European language in Western Europe, is an isolate, a language unrelated to any other living or dead. Nonetheless attempts have been made to demonstrate a relationship with a variety of languages including ancient Iberian, Pictish, Etruscan, and Berber. The most consistently proposed kinship has been with the Kartvelian. Family of Caucasian languages, in particular with Georgian.
